Frequently Asked Questions:
What's the best 72-hour kit for my family?
A 72 hour kit is essential for every member of your family. You want something that is mobile that you can grab quickly on your way out the door if you have to evacuate and survive for a few days without any outside resources. There are myriad websites that can be found from a Google search for "72-hour Kits" but you want to customize your kits for your family's needs. You might want something extensive, or something simple and maximally mobile. Check out the recommended links above, or find something on your own. Also, in all 72 hour kits, extensive or simple, remember to include the following vital records: copies of birth certificates/adoption records for all family members; copies of marriage licenses, drivers licenses, and passports for all family members; copies of all property and auto records - deeds, leases, titles, etc.; copies of all property and umbrella insurance policies; and document locators that tell where original and off-site vital documents and records are stored. It's also a very good idea to carry cash in small bills (the amount will vary by family size).
How can I begin my year's supply?
Acquiring a year's supply of provision can be an overwhelming task. It's important to start small and do what you can do first.
Shoot for a three month's supply first (Here's a very robust one year program from Maricopa Stk.)
Try to gather a year's supply of food for one person in your family and then expand until everyone is covered
Try to acquire a year's supply of one of your family's favorite meals
Try to acquire just a little extra food each week for a year following this simple and basic plan
Don't get discouraged. Every little bit helps.
